The 34th annual Coastal Cleanup, organized locally by the group “Save our Shores,” was held on Saturday. Spokeswoman Hayley Allison says more than 23-hundred volunteers collected over 5-thousand pounds of trash and over 18-hundred pounds of recycling from beaches and waterways in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Watsonville.
Included were some fairly off-beat items. Among them were a beer distiller, automobile engine and gear shifter, a hubcap, and Bedazzled platform shoes
Local sponsors of the event include County of Santa Cruz Public Works, the City of Santa Cruz, Dream Inn, Resource Legacy Fund, the City of Watsonville, New Leaf Community Markets, Greenwaste and StormWater and Education Alliance.
