A CIVIL GRAND JURY RELEASED A REPORT THIS MONTH CRITICIZING THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY MAIN JAIL. THE JURY CITED OVERCROWDING, INEFFICIENCY , AND A LACK OF DISCIPLINE AT THE FACILITY. COUNTY LEADERS HAVE SINCE MADE EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE JAIL, INCLUDING HIRING MORE CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS, POSTING RULES, AND ADDING MORE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE MUST WRITE A FORMAL RESPONSE TO THE GRAND JURY BY EARLY AUGUST.
