The California Highway Patrol will be implementing a Maximum Enforcement Period as a measure to encourage safe driving and enforce traffic laws.
This will mean that CHP is deploying every officer available to work this weekend. The M-E-P starts at 6 PM Wednesday, continuing until the end of December 1.
CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley stresses the importance of safe driving habits, ensure drivers (as well as their passengers) have their seatbelts on, and that car seats are fully secured.
Last year over the Thanksgiving Holiday, 59 people were fatally injured in California during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. Among those killed, 18 people weren’t wearing their seatbelt.
CHP also encourages designating a sober driver. Last year’s Thanksgiving holiday weekend also resulted in 931 arrests for DUI.
