California Highway Patrol in Santa Cruz County reported that they have issued more than one thousand tickets this month for distracted driving caused by cellphone use. Last Wednesday alone officers wrote 112 tickets. The increased enforcement is part of the third annual National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. CHP says they want to remind people of the importance of keeping their eyes on the road. The Office of Traffic Safety estimates that more than 3,300 people were killed in accidents related to distracted driving.
