A pesticide, that made national news last month, is still being used in the Santa Cruz and Salinas Valley areas. Chlorpyrifos (klor-PEER-ee-foss), which has been linked to neurological damage in children, is used in both the North Coast and Watsonville areas of Santa Cruz county (on apples, and brussels sprouts)……and in the Salinas Valley on a variety of greens. Some environmental activists, and scientists, have called for a statewide ban on the pesticide.
