The pedestrian bridge across San Lorenzo river will have a new name and a new look.
The link between River Street and San Lorenzo park will feature a colorful dragon and Chinese characters and will be re-named “Chinatown Bridge” in honor of the former Chinese neighborhoods in Santa Cruz. The neighborhoods were destroyed by flooding in 1955.
Community mosaic and mural artist Kathleen Crocetti and concrete artist Tom Ralston have been commissioned to design and produce the gate and dragon. No word yet on when construction on new project will begin.
