a local business has been named “business of the year” by save our shores. charlie hong kong, a chinese food restaurant on soquel avenue in santa cruz, stopped using plastic bags in may, opting for RECYCLABLE cloth bags or a paper box. the restaurant also discontinued selling water in plastic bottles and only utilizes COMPOSTABLE utensils. charlie hong kong will be named along with other winners of the “local ocean heroes awards” at the save our shores toast to the coast fundraiser at seascape beach resort on august 21st. .
