Scientists with the Monterey Bay Area Research Institute (aka M.B.A.R.I.) believe they have determined the cause of a recent toxic algae bloom in the Monterey Bay. When looking through 25 years of data, they discovered that the chemical balance of the ocean water was different during the 2015-2016 Commercial Crab Season (that was shut down due to Domoic Acid poisoning in the crabs). Researchers are still working to determine if the chemical imbalance is connected with warmer ocean temperatures.
