more than 50 catalytic converters have been stolen from vehicles in the city of santa cruz since july of 2011. santa cruz police believe the same suspects are responsible for thefts in monterey county and the sacramento area. two suspects were arrested in sacramento after c.h.p. officers made a traffic stop and found dozens of catalytic converters in the car. those suspects are currently out on bail.
police are urging residents to watch for suspicious activity in their area. thieves generally target toyota trucks and s.u.v.’s, as the part is easier to remove in those models.
