A Castroville man was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for fatally shooting a man back in 2011. 22-year-old Alberto Cortez was convicted of street terrorism, first-degree murder, and enhancements for being involved in a gang and for the use of a firearm. Cortez was identified as the shooter and 26-year-old Fernando Miranda was identified as the getaway driver. Both suspects were caught on video surveillance, which lead to their arrests. Miranda was sentenced to 42 years and 4 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges of assault with a deadly weapon, voluntary manslaughter, and gang enhancements.
