A 34 year-old Salinas man has pleaded “no contest” to charges he violated election codes. Based on that plea, Alisal Union School District board president, Joe Castaneda, has been sentenced to spend 40 days in Monterey County jail (and pay a 2 thousand dollar fine). The charges were in connection with what Castaneda did (or did not) do in his attempt to get Monterey County supervisor Fernando Armenta recalled.
