An out-of-court settlement has been reached between Carmel By The Sea AND P. G. & E., (regarding a gas leak, and explosion, that took place back in march of 2014). The incident occurred at an un-occupied home near the intersection of Guadalupe Street and Third Avenue. The settlement requires P. G. & E. workers to: carry crimping devices on their trucks, so they can seal gas leaks more quickly, and conduct regular inspections system-wide.
Carmel and P.G. & E. will now require homeowners (or contractors working in the area), to call 811 before doing any trench digging.
P. G. & E. was fined $37.3 million for the explosion.
P. G. & .E will pay Carmel more than $1.6 million to cover the costs of repairs (and time) the city police (and fire departments) spent dealing with the explosion.
Friends Of Carmel Forest will get $25,000 from P. G. & E. and will plant and maintain 100 trees within the next year.
