The Carmel Mission is set to be honored next week, when the United Utates Postal Service releases their newest stamp. the Dome-shaped bell tower and star-shaped window AT THE mission, formally named the mission san carlos borromeo del rio carmelo, are pictured on the new express mail stamp. the carmel mission, which was founded june 3rd of 1770, was the 2nd of 21 missions….that were constructed (ABOUT A DAY’S RIDE APART) along the california coast.
the “FIRST Day of Issue” stamp ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. next Tuesday (February 28th) at the Carmel Mission, which is located at 3080 Rio Road.
