Dangerous surf conditions at Carmel’s Monastery Beach claimed one life on Saturday, while 4-other people were hospitalized. State parks lifeguards, working with Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies, rescued a group of 4-people just before 6 p.m. The victims were taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, where one victim was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, in a separate rescue, at the other end of Monastery beach, rescue workers pulled 3-other people from the rip currents. Those victims received C-P-R, but otherwise did not require serious medical treatment.
