Although the city of Carmel’s zoning code prohibits the installation of wireless communications facilities anywhere in the single-family residential district, that’s just where Verizon Wireless wants to install 5 new cellular sites. The cell phone company said not allowing the installation would be a violation of state and federal laws. The Planning Commission agrees with the city (and the residents who argued against the cell phone equipment being installed), and so legal counsel is being sought to determine who’s in the right in this particular instance.
