An urgency ordinance was approved by the Capitola City Council last night for a moratorium on SmartMeters. The council voted 4 to 1 for the urgency ordinance, which takes effect immediately. The measure bans the installation of the wireless electricity meters in the city for the remainder of 2011. The council also voted for the city to write a letter supporting State Assembly Bill 37 requiring the Public Utilities Commission to allow PG&E customers to opt-out of SmartMeter installation.
