A SANTA CRUZ COUNTY WOMAN WAS HOSPITALIZED AFTER BATTLING A HOUSE FIRE THIS WEEK. AUTHORITIES SAY THE 65-YEAR OLD CAPITOLA RESIDENT WAS BURNING PAPERS IN THE FIREPLACE OF HER SIR FRANCIS COURT HOME JUST AFTER 8 P.M. MONDAY, WHEN THE FLAMES SPREAD TO A STACK OF NEARBY MAGAZINES. THE WOMAN TRIED TO PUT OUT THE BLAZE WHEN SHE SLIPPED AND FELL. NEIGHBORS AND CAPITOLA POLICE PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A GARDEN HOSE PRIOR TO THE ARRIVAL OF FIREFIGHTERS, WHO COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED THE BLAZE.
