THE CAPITOLA CITY COUNCIL IS SEEKING AN INCREASE TO THE CITY’S TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX. THE COUNCIL VOTED TO PUT A ONE PERCENT INCREASE, FROM 10 TO 11 PERCENT, UP TO THE VOTERS IN NOVEMBER. THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX IS CHARGED FOR OCCUPYING A ROOM IN A HOTEL, INN, MOTEL, OR SIMILAR LODGING, FOR LESS THAN 31 DAYS. ACCORDING TO COUNCIL MEMBERS, THE INCREASE COULD GENERATE AS MUCH AS ONE HUNDRED TWENTY SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR CAPITOLA’S GENERAL FUND. THE NOVEMBER 2014 BALLOT MEASURE NEEDS 50 PERCENT APPROVAL TO PASS.
