Two Capitola women are safe after escaping a fire that started in the garage of a sober living house yesterday afternoon. Fire crews responded to the 100-block of Cortez Drive just before 12:30 and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the home by containing the blaze to the garage. The blaze was fully out by 1:30. The garage roof, and items stored inside, sustained most of the damage. Authorities are still investigating whether cigarette butts found in an ashtray in the garage caused the blaze. About 8 people living in the home, were temporarily displaced.
