City leaders in Capitola aim to protect renters by enacting a temporary eviction moratorium.
Earlier this week… the city council approved an urgency ordinance that prohibits “no fault evictions” in the wake of assembly bill 1482, signed earlier last month by the governor. Bill 1482 is the tenant protection act of 2019 and caps rent increases at five percent and requires just cause for eviction.
A group of tenants at a small apartment complex on 46th avenue in Capitola… say they were given notice to evict just after the bill was signed and they believe their eviction is a direct result of the new bill.
