Cannabis cultivation is treated differently throughout the United States.
Juan Hildago, Santa Cruz County Ag Commissioner, explains how such productions are handled locally.
“It’s very unique in the way it [cannabis] is being handled by individual states where it’s legal in California, but a national level it is federally illegal,” he stated.
“Our county board of supervisors is treating it as much as possible as an agricultural commodity.”
Hildago went on to mention that proposals for future zoning could include encouraging cannabis cultivators to move away from the mountainside because of environmental concerns.
