State subsidies for child care assistance were temporarily re-instated today, overturning Governor Schwarzenegger’s cuts to the program. The governor had used his line-item veto power to cut 256-million dollars from Cal-Works, affecting about 55-thousand families in California. Democrats had opposed the move, and a judge ordered a temporary restaining order on the cuts, until a hearing is held on the matter next Thursday. The cuts had been set to go into effect on Monday.
