Caltrans in partnership with the CHP published a list encouraging safe driving habits during one of the busiest holiday travel seasons.
- Obey the posted speed limit. Reduce your speed where congestion or hazards may occur and maintain a safe distance between other vehicles.
- Slow down and move over when Caltrans workers, law enforcement or tow truck drivers are working near the roadway.
- Call 911 to report any hazardous conditions or impaired driving.
- Be aware of electronic message boards and other road signs with information on incidents, changing road conditions, lane closures or detours.
- Ensure vehicle brakes, wiper blades and tires are in good condition. Inspect your headlights & taillights for maximum visibility on the highway.
- Share the road safely with everyone, especially bicyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians.
AAA predicts 55 million people will travel more than 50 miles from home this weekend.
