In regional transportation news… it’s full steam ahead for a plan to increase ridership on Cal-train.
The commuter train that runs from Gilroy to San Francisco would provide more frequent trains from Gilroy… under a plan the cal-train board of directors voted in favor of yesterday. More baby bullet trains would also be added from San Jose to San Francisco.
The increased frequency would almost triple daily ridership from 65-thousand passengers to 180-thousand by 2040. It’s not clear yet how the commuter train will pay for the additional trains but a ballot measure or additional tax will likely fund the improvement project.
