STARTING JULY 1ST, CALTRAIN RIDERS WILL PAY ANOTHER 25 CENTS FOR A ONE-WAY TICKET, UNLESS THEY USE THE BAY AREA TRANSPORTATION CARD COMMONLY KNOWN AS A “CLIPPER.” THE RISE IN PRICE WAS ENACTED AS AN EFFORT TO ENCOURAGE MORE RIDERS TO SWITCH TO THE CLIPPER…ONLY 25 PERCENT OF CALTRAIN RIDERS ALREADY USE IT. ANOTHER FEE INCREASE OF 25 CENTS CAN BE EXPECTED NEXT YEAR IF LESS THAN HALF OF ONE DAY AND DAY PASS RIDERS AREN’T USING THE CLIPPER BY NEXT MARCH. THE ADDITION OF THE CLIPPER WAS AN EXPENSIVE ADDITION FOR BAY AREA TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS, SO THEY WANT TO PROMOTE ITS USE. CARDS CAN BE PURCHASED ONLINE AT CLIPPER CARD DOT COM.
