Beginning today California will implement its first rise in gas tax since 1994. California drivers can expect to pay an extra 12 cents a gallon for gasoline and an extra 20 cents for diesel fuel. This new tax that was passed by California legislature in April is expected to raise approximately 5.4 billion dollars annually and will go towards state improvement of highways, bridges, and culverts as well as benefiting local street and road repairs and improving public transportation options.
