Paying more at the gas pump than any other state is common for California consumers.

Severin Borenstein, a Professor of Economics at UC Berkeley tells KSCO more about how this could change as the California governor ordered the state attorney general to investigate this matter.

Aside from the “Gas tax”, Borenstein went on to discuss how state mandated programs such as cap-and-trade as well as stricter refining standards are contributing factors to higher gas prices in California.

Borenstein also stated that as a result of this spike in price, Californians have spent over $25 billion dollars more since the spike started in 2015.
