Calif Crab Season Still Delayed 11-24-20 22:46

The commercial Dungeness crab season on California’s coast, between Point Arena and the Mexico border, will continue to be delayed due to the presence of whales and the potential for whales becoming entangled and accidentally killed.

The commercial Dungeness crab season was scheduled to open Sunday, Dec. 1, but was delayed until at least Wednesday, Dec. 16 due to low meat quality.

In early December, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will re-assess whale entanglement risk in the central management area and evaluate risk in the northern management area to decide the season-opening date in both areas.
