the monterey county s.p.c.a. is asking fisherman (and the general public) to make sure to take fishing line and fishhooks with them (whenever possible) when they leave the ocean, beaches and wharves. that’s because of a recent spike of california brown pelicans that have been found snared by fishhooks, or entangled in fishing line. 6 snared or entangled pelicans have been found in the monterey bay area just in the last 2 days….and one of those had 5 separate fishhooks stuck in him.
