a 68 hundred acre, 7-and-a-half mile long stretch of the north coast of santa cruz county is now officially “protected”. that’s because the california coastal commission unanimously approved a deal to protect one of the largest privately owned swaths of land between san francisco and the mexican border. the coast dairies property was initially included in a spanish land grant.
part of yesterday’s approval included new language, that makes it clear that no hydraulic fracturing (for gas, oil, or similar resources) will be allowed on the property.
