Firefighters in north monterey county were able to extinguish a brush fire Monday afternoon before it threatened any structures. The blaze burned about a half-acre of grass and brush off of highway-156 before being controlled by 2 p.m. no injuries were reported. Illegal fireworks are believed to be the cause of the fire.
