A FINAL PUSH TO GAIN SIGNATURES FOR A BALLOT MEASURE THAT PROPOSES THE ANNEXATION OF 80 ACRES ALONG RIVERSIDE DRIVE FOR COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT HAS BEGUN. THE PROPOSAL, HEADED BY WATSONVILLE CITY COUNCILMAN DANIEL DODGE, WOULD ANNEX THE SAKATA-KETT AND GREEN FARM PROPERTIES TO REZONE THEM FOR COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT. THE PROPOSAL WHICH WAS BROUGHT UP IN JANUARY, IS AN ATTEMPT TO FIX THE CITY’S HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, AND INCREASE TAX REVENUE. THE PETITION IS CLOSE TO IT’S GOAL OF 1500 SIGNATURES, WHICH NEEDS TO BE REACHED BY THE JULY 2ND DEADLINE.
