TWO CHILDREN AND THEIR FATHER WERE INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT IN SALINAS YESTERDAY, AS THE TANDEM BICYCLE THEY WERE RIDING COLLIDED WITH AN SUV. THE CHILDREN, THREE-YEARS-OLD AND SIX-YEARS-OLD, WERE AIR-LIFTED TO SAN JOSE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER WITH NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. THE FATHER, 34-YEAR-OLD AUSTIN PIRGEN, WAS TREATED AT THE SCENE FOR MINOR INJURIES AND TAKEN TO NATIVIDAD MEDICAL CENTER. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT THE INTERSECTION OF ALVIN DRIVE AND NORTH MAIN ST AT 12:21 P.M., WHEN THE SUV STRUCK PIRGEN AS HE RODE INTO THE CROSSWALK. PIRGEN WAS DETERMINED TO BE AT FAULT FOR RIDING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION AND FAILING TO YIELD.
