A NEW BIKE PUMP TRACK, ON THE WEST SIDE OF SANTA CRUZ, HAS FINALLY BECOME A REALITY. THE IDEA WAS PROMPTED BY CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN MAYOR HILLARY BRYANT, AND YOUTH SOCCER PARENTS BACK IN 2011, WHILE THEY WERE ON THE SIDELINES WATCHING A GAME. ON SATURDAY, MAYOR BRYANT CUT THE RIBBON TO OFFICIALLY OPEN THE FACILITY. THE TRACK IS A SET OF DIRT MOUNDS, ON WHICH RIDERS CAN COAST WITHOUT PEDALING, USING ONLY THEIR BALANCE, MOMENTUM AND SKILL. THE ADMISSION TO THE 5 THOUSAND-SQUARE-FOOT FACILITY IS FREE TO THE PUBLIC AND IS LOCATED AT 100 WESTERN DRIVE, JUST OFF HIGHWAY 1. THE HOURS ARE FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET AND HELMETS ARE REQUIRED.
