A Big Sur family is asking for your help as they seek their missing dog, an Australian shepherd who left home Saturday near Garrapata State Beach on Highway 1 in Monterey County.
The white-with-orange-markings dog, named Canela, was a special companion to the family’s daughter, named Olivia, who died of cancer in early 2019. She was only 9-years-old.
The dog has remained a living connection to the child and helped family members deal with the grief of losing the young girl.
The family says Canela appeared to have been picked up on Highway 1 by a Good Samaritan driving a dark gray Ford pickup truck and pulling a light-colored trailer.
The animal has not been seen since and is not microchipped. If you have any information about this missing dog, please contact the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
A video showing Canella and the truck believed to have taken her is posted on our website at KSCO-dot-com-slash-news.
