there have been 3 major problem spots along the big sur coast in the last couple weeks. on march 16th, a 40-foot section of the southbound lane collapsed into the ocean near bixby bridge (north of the town of big sur). last wednesday, a mudslide occurred near limekiln state park (south of the town of big sur), and this past sunday a mudslide occurred at alder creek, which is nearly 40 miles south of LIMEKILN.
although the slide at limekiln has been cleared, AND THE ONE AT ALDER CREEK SHOULD BE CLEARED IN ABOUT A WEEK, it is likely to be AT LEAST A MONTH before VEHICULAR TRAFFIC CAN GET THROUGH THE BIXBY BRIDGE AREA SLIP-OUT.
in the meantime, for those who need to get out of the isolated area, specialized helicopter of watsonville is providing helicopter shuttles….for about 60 dollars a ride. for more information on those helicopter shuttles, people are welcome to call specialized heli, or e-mail the big sur chamber of commerce at: info@BigSurCalifornia.org
