SANTA CRUZ NATIVE AND BASEBALL STAR, NICK DOAN, HAS DIED FROM BRAIN CANCER. HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE CANCER IN MAY OF 2010, UNDERWENT EXTENSIVE TREATMENTS, BUT PASSED AWAY ONE DAY AFTER HIS 34TH BIRTHDAY ON DECEMBER 20TH OF THIS YEAR. HE GRADUATED FROM SANTA CRUZ HIGH IN 1998, WHERE HE EXCELLED IN BASEBALL AS A PITCHER, HELPING THE CARDINALS WIN THE SANTA CRUZ COAST ATHLETIC LEAGUE TITLE THAT YEAR. HE HAD RECENTLY WORKED FOR HIS FATHER’S CONSTRUCTION COMPANY BEFORE SUCCUMBING TO HIS ILLNESS. HIS SERVICES WILL BE AT NOON IN HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, FOLLOWED BY A CELEBRATION OF LIFE BAR-B-QUE AT THE SANTA CRUZ HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL FIELD ON JANUARY 4TH.
