a barista from a local coffee roaster poured up a venti cup of first place at a regional barista competition yesterday. the southwest regional barista competition was held at the rittenhouse building in downtown santa cruz. jared truby of verve coffee roasters won first place, based on a range of factors, such as taste, appearance, and the barista’s knowledge of the coffee. the 6 finalists from the competition are eligible for the nationals, which are set for april 19th through the 22nd in portland, oregon.
