(18:21) SANTA CRUZ- A 12 year old girl was killed in a five car pile up on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz Saturday afternoon. Authorities say the fatal accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. when the driver of a Ford truck collide with the rear of a Toyota Prius in a southbound lane between the La Fonda overpass and the Soquel exit. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver of the car was airlifted to a trauma center. No other injuries from the other three vehicles involved have been reported. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to play a role in the accident which remains under investigation.
