(17:30) HALF MOON BAY + MONTEREY BAY AREA – People are being warned not to eat rock crabs caught in the Half Moon Bay and Monterey Bay areas, along with recreationally harvested mussels, clams, and the internal organs of scallops caught in the Monterey Bay Area. That’s because dangerous levels of Domoic Acid has been found in those creatures. Commercially harvested bi-valve shellfish are not included in the shellfish warning. Symptoms of Domoic Acid poisoning can occur within 30 minutes to 24 hours after eating toxic seafood. In mild cases, the symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headache and dizziness. And these symptoms can disappear within a few days. In severe cases, the victim may experience trouble breathing, confusion, disorientation, seizures, cardiovascular instability, excessive bronchial secretions, permanent loss of short term memory, coma or death.
