(08:52) SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA – A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck the San Francisco Bay Area Monday morning. The USGS reports that the quake hit just north of Piedmont at 6:49 a.m. The earthquake was followed by six aftershocks, all under 2.5 magnitudes. No injuries or damage were reported. Bay Area Rapid Transit briefly suspended operations to check the tracks. All trains resumed service by 7:25 a.m. (S.G.)
