As the pandemic drags on, the loss at the Monterey Bay Aquarium mounts. Recently, the aquarium announced it will lay off an additional 27 employees.
According to the executive director, the aquarium has lost 55-million dollars in revenue since march. With an operating cost of 1-point-three million dollars a week to care for all the animals and collections… the administration has sought to secure more donations but is still falling way short.
Meanwhile, the goal now is to maintain long term viability and the fiscal health of a local treasure.
