The dirt mound bicycle track across from the Aptos Post Office is scheduled to leveled. The impromptu park, known as a bicycle pump track, was built 15 years ago by bike enthusiasts as a temporary training facility. Since then the track has gained international recognition in the mountain bike community. The site has been slated for demolition since it was purchased by developer Barry Swenson years ago. However, a deal between the County of Santa Cruz that relieved the builder of liability, spared the bike park until plans for the new Aptos Village Project recently solidified. The park is now set to be flattened on February 17th. The new pump track is planned for a future Aptos Public Park.
