April 7, 2016: Santa Cruz County Residents Warned of IRS Scam

(06:43) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – Santa Cruz County authorities are warning the public about an IRS phone scam. Callers impersonating IRS agents have reportedly been contacting residents and telling them they are late on paying their taxes. The victims are then threatened with deportation, arrest, having their utilities shut off, or having their driver’s licenses revoked. The IRS is reminding the public that they do not call taxpayers to discuss payments. Consumers who receive a call from someone claiming to be an IRS agent should immediately hang up and report the call to the Treasury Inspector General. (S.G.)
