(19:45) SANTA CRUZ- A Santa Cruz man died of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound after barricading himself inside a residence on Saturday. The incident took place after police responded to the 100 block of Beachview Avenue to investigate a hit and run report. Officers contacted the victim who had followed the suspect vehicle after being hit near Mission and Swift Streets. When police attempted to contact the driver he barricaded himself in the home. Moments later shots were heard and a perimeter was established while the armored Bearcat was brought in to extract the hit and run victim from the scene. Attempts to contact the subject were unsuccessful. Shortly after 1 a.m. a tactical team entered the dwelling and found the 52 year old man deceased. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
