data for the annual coastal clean up day has been released by save our shores. more than 17-thousand pounds of debris were cleaned up on september 17th in santa cruz and monterey counties. 4,584 volunteers removed trash from 81 sites around the monterey bay national marine sanctuary. nearly 5-thousand plastic bags were removed from the sites. the santa cruz county board of supervisors recently passed a ban on single use plastic bags, which goes into effect in march.
