Amazon is paying $1.5 million in civil penalties and settlement fees after the Monterey County District Attorney and 22 other district attorney offices took legal action. The action stemmed from allegations that Amazon advertised and sold plastic products that were misleadingly labeled biodegradable or compostable. That is in violation of a California law that requires products to meet a scientific standard. Prosecutors say Amazon officials quickly stopped sales and worked to come in compliance with the law.
