The Monterey County District Attorney’s office has elected not move forward with a lawsuit against a Salinas Police officer accused of rape and sexual abuse. Allegations were brought against Salinas Police Community Service Officer Scott Callahan by a now 16-year-old girl, after Callahan was sentenced to 3 years for sexually abusing another underage girl. The teen claims that Callahan repeatedly raped her when she was 13, while in the Salinas Police Explorer program. Monterey County prosecutors reviewed evidence after the alleged victim filed the case in December, and have decided not to bring the case to trial. In response to the initial Callahan incident, the Salinas Police will apply Boy Scouts of America supervision rules regarding minors in the Explorers Program.
