A woman who is accused of participation in the murder of 18-year-old Bryan Zamudio is claiming her involvement was forced. 20-year-old Maria Luna claims that while she was sitting in her car near Monterey County Veterans Memorial Park on August 31st of last year, she heard gunshots. Luna alleges that shortly after the shots, a group of men ran to her car and demanded she drive them from the scene, threatening to kill her. Luna’s car was seen leaving by a witness. After living on the run for 8 months, Luna turned herself into police. A judge ruled Monday that Luna and 20-year-old Edgar Gomar, the alleged gunman, will proceed to trial. The murder is suspected to have been a gang revenge killing.
