A Roof repair is said to have been the cause of a Santa Cruz fire on Friday. Shortly before 2 p.m. firefighters were called to the 200 block of Beach Street to reports of smoke and flames coming from the roof of a 2-story apartment at the La Bahia Hotel. Crews extinguished what was described as a small fire started by a roof repair torch. No one was injured in the blaze, damage estimates are at $30,000.
